Jeudi May 14 2015 shore line clean up left bank of La Baye de Montreux 14h30 - 15h30

Lake: calm, shoreline exposure limited on left side of river mouth
Weather: cool and overcast 15° C
Lake Temp 17.5 C
35 liters of trash collected
16 days since last collection

Ascension holiday and a week of nice weather, boardwalk  packed w/people. Lake levels high 3/4 of beach inundated, major rain and spring snow melts caused massive flood events along many rivers and streams beginning May 2nd.

The debris from the flood event is evident along the shore-front & in the lake. Debris lines extended 50 meters out into lake, mix of natural materials and pollutants. The plastic debris has rapidly disintegrated into finer particles mainly due to boat traffic.

Difficult to reach left side of the river bank due to flooding & respect for the nesting swans. The nest is currently only a meter from the water's edge. Both swans are nervous & its difficult to collect the debris near their nest w/out stressing them further.
